What You Need to Know to Navigate Atlantic City

The Wild Wild West

Most of the visitors enjoy gambling in Atlantic City casinos because it follows economy oriented and legalized gambling practices. Here is some important information and guidelines to be kept in mind while gambling in Atlantic City casinos so that one has fun as well as has more chances of winning.

The first and foremost thing to be done is to choose a good hotel on the Boardwalk of Atlantic City as most of the tourists stay there and one can happily stay in his nice little tourist bubble. The beach is right there near the boardwalk, it’s quite a lengthy beach which has shallow but shell-strewn sand all over it. This beach in Atlantic City is quite tidy and clean and the waters are very cold even during scorching summers. If you are a swimming freak make sure that your hotel has a good swimming pool. Some of the visitors are of the view that when they compare Atlantic City with Vegas they tend to win more cash in Vegas and they are of the view that maybe there is some statistical validity to this so they warn other visitors.

The customers in the casinos are served coffee and soda but if they ask for alcoholic drinks they can get them also for free. When compared to Las Vegas there quite less things to do in Atlantic City. One comes to relax, enjoy and spend quality time with his companions that have accompanied him. One also comes to gamble, win cash and hang on the beach. It is not such a busy vacation is a resting vacation where one forgets about all work and spends his/her days.

Customers are advised only to attend buffets for dinner as it is not at all valuable otherwise. One of the best Buffets in Atlantic City is the buffet in Wild West Casino which is near to Caesars. The Atlantic City is considered as a place of refuge for seniors and hardly any youngsters are found there. If a customer takes a bus ride from Atlantic City to New York City he will get cash refunded at the casino such that it comes to $10 per person. The Bars in Atlantic City serve at different hours of the day for instance at Caesars one cannot be served before 1:00, at Wild West Casino one can have margaritas even at 10 am.

Keep in mind of these points and play safe and enjoy ones trip at the Atlantic City.

About Atlantic City Tourism History

Atlantic City

Atlantic City is known as a popular gambling hotspot. But the city has an enchanting history is which goes much deeper than the slot machine. Atlantic City was built-in in the year 1854, March. In that very year first passenger train was started down the new line from Philadelphia. The trip took 2.5 hours to cover a distance of 60 miles. At the end of the trip when the first vacationers stepped down from the train and saw the beautiful beach, the Atlantic City tourism started its journey.

After 1860, the Atlantic City became extremely popular as a vacation spot in America. Its primary attraction was the location. It was accessible from most major urban cities and towns, particularly Philadelphia. People came from all over the globe to spend the summer in the Atlantic City beaches. It was the time when Atlantic City was emerging as a health resort. Doctors had prescribed the “sea air” of this city as a therapy for pain, stress and even insanity.

But the beautiful beach was being destroyed by the various activities of the merchants and tourists.  Andrew Boardman, a railroad constructor, proposed a solution in the late 1860s. He suggested developing an elevated walkway which will allow the people to wash their feet before leaving the beach. On June 26, 1870, a wooden walkway was prepared separating the beach from the other part of the city. It was named Boardman’s Walk and was first of its kind in the whole world. The name was gradually abridged to “Boardwalk”. As it is an official street of the Atlantic City, Boardwalk is always spelled with a capital ‘B’.

The Boardwalk grew with the increasing demand for additional beachfront. As a result, the Rolling Chair was developed. A canopied chair made to be pushed from back; it made roaming around the length of the always expanding Boardwalk an easy task for the wealthy vacationers.

Boardwalk became a prime location for the city’s real estate. A large number of beachside attractions mushroomed up, starting from amusement piers to performing theaters. Small vendors of Salt Water Taffy (another unique thing from Atlantic City) to various entertainment shows were available on the Boardwalk. Steeplechase Pier, the Million Dollar Pier, Steel Pier, Heinz Pier and various others made their magnificent debuts in the first few decades of the increased development of the Boardwalk.

Atlantic City Coastline

Between the periods of 1890 to 1940, the history of Atlantic City was adorned with a mixed chain of events. A lot was happening. Presidents came to give speeches, magicians were dazzling audiences, and amusements Piers were closing down and started again. Various other incidents made this time a wonderful period in the history of the city. Atlantic City become the center of attraction and started to have a dazzling existence.

The first picture postcards of U.S. contained views of Atlantic City in 1872. Salt Water Taffy was discovered and named in the city around 1880. The first air-conditioned theater started in 1896, summer in the Atlantic City. Even though Chicago is famous for the first “Ferris Wheel”, in 1891 Williams Somers built an “observational roundabout” on the Atlantic City Boardwalk. George Washington Gale Ferris observed and this very ride for the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair, and his name, not Somers’, is attached to the ride today.

Even in the 20th century, AC continued its record. In 1915, the first non-subsidized public transport system, The Atlantic City Jitney, was developed. The first passenger air service came to Atlantic City in 1919. In this very year the term “airport” was coined. Even the Miss America pageant started in the Atlantic City in 1921, and was held here for decades. In 1929, Atlantic City has its first Convention Hall. Slang terms like “Eagle” and “Birdie” which are common among golfers, were used in this city for the 1st time.

By 1944, the Boardwalk reached an astounding seven miles down the Absecon Island coast- ending in Longport, three cities south. Unfortunately, a huge hurricane destroyed many attraction of the Boardwalk including many amusement piers in the fall of that year. The Boardwalk was later rebuilt to a shorter distance covering about 5.75 miles.

This hurricane of 1944 served a huge blow to the tourism of this city. At the same time, exotic destinations like Bahamas and Florida were being popularized by the Commercial airline travel, in the 1930s and 1940s. One started to go to local places for vacation less and less and Atlantic City tourism started its sharp decline. By the 1960s, Atlantic City was almost dead. With minimal tourist income, high rate of unemployment, and low population Atlantic City demanded something to do for it.

In 1970, a bill in the New Jersey Assembly suggested the legalization of gambling in the whole state to boost the economy of Atlantic City. The opposition protested the legalization of gambling and the bill was cancelled and the idea was dropped.  At that time, Nevada was the only state in US with legalized gambling. It took three more attempts before it was successful in 1976. The bill was modified allowing for gambling only at the Atlantic City, and not in the whole state suggested buy the previous bills. After another 18 months, in May 1978, Resorts International opened in Atlantic City as the first casino opened its doors. Seeing its popularity, many other casinos opened up in Atlantic City in the following years and tourism started to increase. Other hotels also developed and people again started to come to the city. The Boardwalk was also developed again as the center of family activities.

A Vacation at Atlantic City

Atlantic City
Atlantic City has everything to delight tourists, right from its beaches to hotels to casinos. We really did not want to miss any opportunity during our short vacation at Atlantic City. Therefore, we decided to plan out our entire schedule and we were committed to stick to our devised plan. However, the problem is that you are gambling at the casino and having all the luck. Then you end up spending more time at the casino trying out your luck and hence your entire schedule goes awry.

On the first day itself, we tried to make up a schedule and made every attempt to stick to the schedule at any cost. We devised our plan on the basis of segments of time, which we intend to spend at each place in Atlantic City. Our day started with a heart breakfast at the hotel casino, which was provided at extremely reasonable rate. A hearty breakfast ensured that we had lots of energy for the entire day. Then we headed to the casino for gambling. We used to get to gambling first so that we could enjoy the rest of the activity with the trill derived out of gambling. This gambling session was usually followed by a stroll outside in fresh air. Then it was time to have lunch. We generally used o have a light lunch which was followed by another gambling session at the casino. After gambling for a couple of hours it was time to return back to the hotel to relax. During this break we preferred either having a cold drink or watching television, or taking a hot steam bath or reading up a magazine. In some cases, we also allowed us a short power nap. We usually ended the day with a dinner followed by a walk outside. In some instances we even preferred hitting the casino trying out our fortune at the table, gambling. We never preferred spending time at the theatre, so theatre shows were sidelined from our routine.

We scheduled our activities so exquisitely that we had ample time for all activities right from sightseeing to gambling. We used to go on long walks across the Boardwalk enjoying the oceanic views. There was music, vendors selling variety of eatables to satisfy tourists. However, our interests were different, we enjoyed strolling in fresh air and that was a more exhilarating experience for us.

Another of our favourite attractions was the Brigantine National Bird Sanctuary. It was a short ride from our hotel, took around half an hour to reach the place but the experience there was incredible. The sanctuary had a loop of several miles through which one can easily drive through and watch thousands of migrating birds. The birds were of various kinds. From marshland birds to sea birds, you can find every kind of bird. My husband and I would get down from our car and watch these birds for hours together much like amateur a bird watcher. We really found peace of mind here and our minds became devoid of all things, even gambling. Whatever happened we ensured that visit to this bird sanctuary always formed an integral part of our plans on future trips, however short the trip may be. We simply liked being at this place.

Only thing is that you need to plan your schedule and execute it effectively to enjoy your visit to Atlantic City.

White House Subs: The Best Place to Visit in Atlantic City

White House Subs is one of the best places to visit when you happened to go to Atlantic City, New Jersey. It is situated at 2301 Arctic Avenue. It is famous for its submarine sandwich and must to eat for those who go there.

Fresh Bread is delivered from a nearby local bakery all through the day. They are very softly rolled and heaps of meat will be inside it. Meat is fresh and cut properly. White House Subs has been using USDA approved lean and round steak, which is 91.1% fat free from 1946. The fresh cut meat is used daily which is piled high and it tastes very delicious. They are delivered in two sizes that are in wholes and halves. The half size measures more than 10 inches whereas a whole size of sub is nearly two feet long. A whole subs is more than enough for a person to eat and is generally ordered by the customers. One of my favourites dish on the menu is the whole cheeseburger sub, which cost only $11.00 and easily make up 2 full meals

The ambiance around the White House Subs is amazing. At first look, it looks like submerge. However, when you make entry inside the sub, you find one of the best places for eating and enjoying. You will be able to differentiate good food from others. The food is cooked right in front of you and can make out the hygienic environment under which it is cooked. The photos of famous celebrities are put on the wall as well as magazine and newspapers where it mentions about the White house.

However, do not expect any extra from here apart from food. There are no dolled up waiters at the White House. Paper plates, plastic cups and drinks are served in cans. Get your things done at the first sight. Look for the line outside the sub and wait there. When your turn comes there wait for an empty table inside. Wait there until the woman at the door tells you to occupy the empty table or sit there.

Then look for the menu, which will be kept in front of you. Go through and Select from it. Look for the waiter and then order. Wait for the food, eat your sub, and at last pay the amount while moving out. Therefore, the best approach to spend money in the Atlantic city is to order the subs to go home instead of wasting your money at the tables. Pack the stuff in the cooler and eat throughout the week.

Red Square: A Restaurant in Atlantic City

Atlantic City, located in New Jersey  USA, is one of the world’s prime destinations to eat. Tourists enjoy dining experience in this beautiful destination and prefer to take the memorable experience along with them. Famed chefs and restaurants concepts are highly famous in cities like Atlantic and Las Wegas. People generally have memorable experience of this place and they carry that along with themselves.

Red Square, a restaurant located in “the Quarter” of the Tropicana Resort and Casino, is one of the memorable places to enjoy the experience. It requires enough time to enjoy the entire experience of the dining not because of the speed of the service but just to feel the entire experience. Red Square provide Russian ambience to their restaurant so that the guest, who come there, get embraced by the Russian elegance. Old Russian icons and symbols are put up like Lenin statue, red velvet seating etc to get a feel of their culture. These Russian icons are put up everywhere, which reminds of communism for 21st century.

Red Square provides a multifolded experience for the tourist under one roof. Enjoying any of the multi-course entrees is one of the easiest ways to have a feeling of the experience of Red Square. The tourist can get a sample of seven courses, which include the things that the person would have rarely experienced in his lifetime. Caviar, a seven-course meal, is one such experience, which costs two or three hundred dollars. However, a layman can just order this delicacy for tasting menu.

Atlantic CityHence, to enjoy the multifolded experience of this Russian theme based restaurant, we followed the same thing. We ordered the tasting menu and shared it. The tasting menu first included sample of “two caviars” and the whole experience was so unique, amazing and difficult to describe it. The second course included an exceptional soup called Lobster Bisque. It was quite thick and full as well as rich and good. As per the menu, I had a bowl, while others had a cappuccino cup, which was a small way to begin the dining experience. The third course included a salad, a czar chopped, whose lettuce was leafy. It required sharp knife to cut down the leaves. It was dressed like chardonary dressing from France. Then after a short break or intermission, we began with the next entree. In the break time, drinks were ordered by us and conversations were kept on to hardly miss the food. We sat there for more than 2 hours but we hardly felt like that, as there was hardly any plans set for the near future and even if it would have been there, it does not matter. I also got involved myself in conversation with Tom Iannaccio, one of the managers at the place, who was a very polite person. We got involved ourselves in everything from drinking, eating, talking at the table for nearly 2 hours. Hence I guess it is not for the humble like old communist Russia.

The next on the plate was Roquefort Crusted Filet Mignon, which we ordered as part of the meal. It included generous potatoes and the steak. It was not huge but quite filling and quite satisfied one and a big milestone for the meal. I happened to find beef stroganoff on the menu and ordered it right that time. I had a special place for this dish as it used to be cooked by my mother for us when we were child and i tried hard later on to find this dish but of no use. Filet mignon tips, shoestring potatoes and ragout mushrooms were of top quality. Beef Stroganoff also came with “strozzapreti pasta” which was fat, long and hand rolled. It was really great. One of the funny things about this was its peas, which were not thin, and they were mixed into it and hence were indistinguishable. They were resilient and demanded notice from the eater as they were really tough.

Before the entree got over, they put some dessert on the plate. I also had a cup of coffee to infuse energy in me and allow me to go further on the game. We had the dessert and were totally bummed. It was nothing to do with the quality of it, but with the space, which is hardly left in the stomach. We, next, ordered strawberries Romanoff which was fully loaded with cream and sabayon and was very delicious but hardly could we do justice to it and even the combined force could not put a dent in it. Therefore, those people, who are going for full meal at this restaurant, should better be prepared themselves for the aftermath.

We had a lifetime experience at this restaurant and we want to have this fun once again given the opportunity. We had experienced one of the unique experiences where we had entertainment, heartbreak. So if you happened to visit the Tropicana Hotel and Casino but not sure what to eat, then try the Red Square. It is magnificent from outside as well as from inside and you will have a lifetime experience to pass on to your coming generation.
